Project: Union Lodge F. & A. M.

Company:

Union Lodge F. & A. M.

Description:

The Union Lodge F. & A. M. is the Nantucket outpost of the Massachusetts Freemasons and was founded in 1771, making it the fifth oldest lodge in the Western Hemisphere. The Freemasons describe their organization as, “the world’s oldest and largest fraternity. It is comprised of adult men (18+) of good character from every country, religion, race, age, income, education, and opinion. Its body of knowledge and system of ethics is based on the belief that each man has a responsibility to improve himself while being devoted to his family, his faith, his country, and his fraternity.”

The current Lodge space has been owned by the chapter since 1890, with the first floor rented to the U.S. Postal Service until 1935, and then eventually to a series of retail tenants.  The fire protection needs are therefore unique, in that the chapter wants to make sure the fire protection system is sophisticated enough to protect its priceless documents and mementos while still meeting the requirements of its commercial tenants.

The Dobbert Companies fit the bill to implement new fire protection and plumbing system components for the fraternity, with our deep background in working with cultural and historic as well as commercial and industrial clients.
